Durban Africa Sports Club will be hosting its 7th ONE GOAL ONE EDUCATION SCHOOLS SPORTS TOURNAMENT on Saturday 28 October 2017 at the West Park School Stella Road Malvern. The event emanated from the 2010 FIFA World cup and this was one of the long term goals to be achieved in improving sport among the youth in our country.
This goal is also one of the priority milestones of DASC in promoting, coaching, capacity building, life skills and outreach programs among the youth within our communities. 10 primary schools from Chatsworth, Marianhill, Merebank and Isipingo areas will be involved in the event with approximately 300 children both boys and girls in the under 10 age group will be participating in soccer and netball. Majority of these children emanate from improvised and disadvantage backgrounds. The pupils will be treated with breakfast before commencement followed by lunch and refreshment during the latter part of the day. All schools will receive equipment whilst the soccer winners will receive sports kits sponsored by Umongo Petroleum and the netball winners will receive a kit sponsored by Sharon Surajpal and all medals are sponsored by DMR Stainless Steel Suppliers. The tournament has been a huge success over the years where the club has received positive feedback from participating schools which has motivated the club to continue with this tournament on an annual basis. DASC would like to place on record our sincere thanks to Mr Boston Moonsamy of Umongo Petroleum, DMR Stainless Steel Suppliers, Future Life, Westville Life Hospital for coming on board in supporting this event. Without their support, this event would not have been possible as the club relies on their sponsorship to host the tournament. The club would also like to thank the Department of Sports & Recreation KZN and the Sports & Recreation Department of Ethekwini Municipality for their support and assistance.
