The Durban Africa Sports Club’s ‘One Goal One Education’ project will kick off on the 24th August at the Penguin Street Sports Complex. This project is part of the clubs development plan that aims to encourage sport participation among children. A total of 3OO players both boys and girls under the age of 10 years will be showing their skills in soccer and netball. This project is the third phase where the club has adopted 10 primary schools in the Chatsworth and KwaZulu Natal area. As part of the club’s aim to promote sport among young children, they will provide each of the participating schools with sport equipment.
(ALENCON, BEACONRIDGE, DAWNRIDGE, HIGHLANDS, MARIANNHILL, SHALLCROSS DEMAT, ERICA, MARIANPARK BAHLEBONKE, Willow Park, KAMINLEE) The project will be coordinated by the clubs senior team that comprises of the under 19 squad who are currently playing in the local SAFA Chatsworth league. Club Spokesperson Anand Thaver says “This project has been given a ‘thumbs up’ by all the participating school principals who have enthusiastically endorsed the program. Durban Africa Sports Club has great potential in reaching greater heights in the near future particularly with the coaching expertise of head coach Babes Govender and his excellent technical and administrative team.” The Club is working closely with Technical Director of the NWU Soccer Institution Ted Dimitru. Head coach Babes Govender says “I am positive that come 2014 my reality of having a fully-fledged sports development center in Chatsworth will change the mindset of players in all codes and will be able to provide more sporting opportunities to children.” The Etekwini Municipality – Safer Cities Cluster together with Bayport Financial services and Chatsworth and Recreation Sports Council have supported this initiative. The Clubs netball development is well on track and currently they have a senior team, under 13 and under 15 team playing in the local Chatsworth netball union. “The coaching department is under the watchful eye of Premi Nair and Cheryl Van Der Schyff and the coaches are currently working very hard with the players at training sessions.” Special guests from both the Sports Ministry and the Education sectors have been invited to attend the club’s upcoming project. “We urge all parents and educators from participating schools to support this development initiative to uplift sport and to be a part of honing outstanding players that will represent our national teams, said spokesperson Anand Thaver. After the tournament the club will be hosting an in-house coaching program for a period of six weeks where coaches will visit the schools and offer specialised coaching to the players. The ‘One Goal One Education’ draw will take place at Hotel Savera in Kharwastan on the 16 August at 18h30.

sports development starts at the primary school level and today 90% of our schools have no physical education specialist it is time we take this programme to a higher level
