National Recreation Day 2026 – A Day of Movement, Solidarity and Community Sport for Social Change Network Africa (SSCNA) hosted National Recreation Day in Durban to promote active and healthy living while using sport and recreation as a platform for social change. The day began with a 5 km solidarity walk against gender-based violence (GBV), bringing participants together to stand in solidarity with women and girls and raise awareness of the need for safer, more respectful communities.

This was followed by a fun-filled programme of novelty and recreational games, including volleyball, soccer, sack races, relay races and tug-of-war, encouraging teamwork, physical activity, inclusion and community connection. The event brought together participants, partners and stakeholders in a positive and active environment. SSCNA extends its appreciation to our partners, Durban Africa Sport Club, eThekwini Municipality, Lifesaving South Africa, Lifesaving KwaZulu-Natal and Aquatics KZN, whose support contributed to the successful delivery of the event.
