Established in 1989 by its founder Roy Naidoo, the CEO of SA Fasteners as a “…seemingly aimless young man” who dropped out of high school at a very early age and held up many jobs at one time. Amongst those jobs were a supermarket packer and selling of spices door to door. He found his passion in the industrial fasteners and tool industry then started up SA Fasteners 35 years ago to become currently a successfully leading fastening and tool company in KWAZULU-NATAL.
Irrespective of what entrepreneurial education or business skills were required, one thing remained with Roy Naidoo, the desire to make a
change. This is what drove him, especially considering that he was not born from a business family, but rather he chose to take his path out of sheer
interest to overcome his dire situation and pursue his own dreams. The rise in the number of creative minds in the 80’s such as
Roy Naidoo has boosted the economies, created jobs and paved a better future for their own families. Roy Naidoo’s history of poverty and lack of education made him aware that he needed to give back to society and now he does so in a number of ways ranging from becoming a social entrepreneur, making active participation in community and social service programs. “To start from the bottom means to actually come from
nothing. It is to have your back up against the wall. It’s when you feel no
hope or that you will never amount to anything because of the position you are
in. I have been at that point, the bottom and instead of losing hope, I said to
myself I cannot go any further down, I have nothing to lose from here, but
everything to gain. Always remember you have within you, the strength, the
patience, and the passion to reach for that gain and to change your circumstances.”
