DURBAN AFRICA ONE GOAL ONE EDUCATION SCHOOLS TOURNAMENT: A MAJOR SUCCESS IN SPORTS DEVELOPMENT25/8/2013 Durban Africa Sports Club hosted their 3rd Annual One Goal One Education Primary Schools
Sports Tournament on Saturday 24th August 2013 at Penguin Street Grounds, Kharwastan,Chatsworth stemming from the FIFA 2010 World Cup initiative advocated by FIFA. There were (10) schools that participated (Bahlebonke, Erica, Highlands, Beaconridge, Shallcross,Demat, Alencon, Willowpark, Mariannhill, Mariannpark and 235 learners in the under 10 age category in 2 sporting codes, netball and soccer. Majority of the learners hail from previously disadvantaged and impoverished backgrounds and some of them have not been exposed to outdoor activities. There was an excellent display of skills and talent amongst the young learners. Breakfast, lunch and refreshments were provided for all learners. AND THE WINNERS ARE.... The winners in the different sporting codes: · Netball (winner Mariannhill; runners up Mariannpark) · Girls Soccer (winner Shallcross Demat, runners up Mariannhill) · Boys Soccer ( winner Bahlebonke, runners-up Mariannpark) Sporting equipment (netballs, soccer balls, stop watches & whistles) were handed over to all schools as per the sporting code participated in together with certificates for all leaners. The event was a huge success and well supported by sponsorship partners (Ethekwini Safer Cities, Bayport, George Ramalu Trust, private donors, etc). There was positive comments and feedback received from educators, principals and learners, parents and well wishes on the organization and administration of the event of this magnitude. Further to this tournament, a six weeks advance program has been arranged with the participating schools to attend and coaching will be provided in order to improve the skills and talents for the learners for the both sporting codes. The main objective is to assist the potential players in reaching greater heights and also the possibility of representing the country in the future. The Club would also like to place on record their sincere thanks to all principals, educators and parents for attending and supporting this program.
